Microsoft Teams - live stream remote meetings to People Speak

Update 2/27/21: You can now broadcast from OBS (and any live streaming platform using RTMPS, such as Zoom, etc) directly to People Speak.

Many cities are using Microsoft Teams video conferencing to conduct their City Council and Planning Commission meeting and wondering how to post these videos by embedding them into city sites.

Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't yet support external sharing scenarios for guests or people outside your organization. Microsoft says they are working on plans to build this in the future (you can even add your votes for these features) but in the meantime what other solutions are available?

The challenge is that Microsoft Teams, similar to other videoconferencing software, was not built to live stream - for that, you need a streaming platform such as YouTube, Facebook, or Twitch. As well, you need to be able to get your stream from Teams to those streaming platforms. One way to do that is to use the free Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) that makes it possible to stream anything on your screen, including Microsoft Teams meetings, to streaming platforms.

In the video below you can see how we use Microsoft Teams in conjunction with OBS and Facebook to embed a live stream on the People Speak platform. Once on People Speak, your citizens can watch the meeting remotely, review staff materials, ask questions, and submit comments for public input.
